Set yourself up for success on your next big expedition by training in the premier venue in the lower 48. Ideal for those seeking to improve their cold weather climbing & camping skills, white navigation, climbing technique, crevasse rescue in addition to efficiency on fixed line ascension and decent. Appropriate for those climbers looking to go to Denali, Vinson and Everest.
Dates:
Feb. 6-9, 2025
Itinerary:
Day0: PM Gear Check and Orientation. Logistics, Planning and Training for Expeditions (Particularly Everest and Denali)
Day 1: Full Day of Ice Climbing and Fixed Line Ascension Instruction, Ladder Practice
Day 2: The "Khumbu Simulator" is a series of frozen creeks and waterfalls that simulates the terrain found within the Khumbu Icefall in Nepal, but without the objective hazards. We practice cramponning on hard undulating ice steps and when the terrain gets too steep for walking we implement ascenders on fixed lines over several ice bulges and ramps. Once through the "Ice Fall" section of the day we will ice headwalls similar to the Lhotse Face for the group to practice moving through. We reverse the route to get down practicing various descent methods that are used in 8000m peak climbing including: fixed line descension, rappelling and downclimbing. Becoming efficient on this type of terrain will increase overall safety and lead to greater success while climbing Mount Everest.
Day 3: Specialty Techniques specific the group and each individual: Ice Climbing, More Fixed Line Practice, Self Care. This is a shorter day and allows people to depart on the afternoon flight (~3pm) out of Cody, Wyoming.
